• Synopsis

Cette vidéo rejoue la performance donnée par Toshirô Mifune et Tatsuya Nakadai devant la caméra d’Akira Kurosawa pour le duel final de Tsubaki Sanjuro (1962). Dans ce remake, deux jeunes filles reprennent les rôles originaux et déplacent la chorégraphie dans une autre spatio-temporalité : les bords de Yodo-gawa (Osaka), aujourd’hui. Les corps adolescents ramènent à la vie l’essence contestataire du chanbara eiga, qui vient perturber, un instant, la tranquillité du décor urbain contemporain de ce plan fixe.

Il y a une éthique de la giclée exubérante de sang artificiel.

• Plot summary

This video is a remake of the performance by Toshirō Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai in the last sword fight of Akira Kurosawa’s Sanjuro (1962). Here, two teenage girls play the part of the original actors and shift the choreography to a new spatiotemporality near Yodo-gawa river (Osaka), in the xxi^th century. The adolescent bodies bring back to life the political spirit of the chanbara genre and disturb the peaceful urban contemporary scenery.

There is an ethic of the artificial blood splash we see in the movies.
